Why Hire a Coach?
Why a Life Coach?
The Start of a Passion
Early in my career, I was thrilled when assigned as a mentor to new employees. My job was to guide them as they learned the ropes, and I found it energizing and fulfilling. At first, the experience was all about me—I felt proud to be chosen and saw it as a reflection of my skills. But that changed with my first mentee, Susan. She was a quick learner, and seeing her grow brought me genuine joy. When Susan received an award, I was elated—not for myself, but for her. That’s when I realized how much I loved helping others succeed.
An opportunity soon came to train employees on "Lominger Competencies." While initially exciting, the repetitive nature of teaching the same material drained the spark for me. I realized I wanted more than just delivering lessons—I wanted to see the long-term impact of my guidance.
Discovering the Power of Leadership and Coaching
Transitioning into a management role filled that void. I excelled at leading teams, creating buy-in, and fostering success. Empathy, curiosity, and a genuine desire to develop others came naturally to me. These skills led to a director role, and as workplace coaching gained traction, I was hooked.
I proposed a growth and development program for an elite group of staff, and to my delight, my boss approved. Alongside two incredible colleagues, I designed and implemented a nine-month program covering personal branding, career guidance, and more. The transformation I witnessed in participants cemented my love for coaching—it wasn’t just rewarding for me; it changed lives.
From Manager to Coach
I became a certified coach and integrated these skills into my work. Over time, I became a sought-after mentor and now lead a women’s resource group with over 800 members. Surviving breast cancer further deepened my desire to support others. I worked with women navigating their own cancer journeys, though the emotional weight and challenges of charging for this work made it unsustainable as a business.
Eventually, I found my niche: helping professional women grow into the best versions of themselves. Whether it’s leading workshops on goal-setting or having one-on-one conversations that spark transformation, I’m passionate about guiding women toward success in both their personal and professional lives.
What a Coach Is Not
A coach is not a therapist. We don’t dive into your past to uncover why you are the way you are. Therapy is incredibly valuable—I’ve benefited from it myself during pivotal moments in my life, like processing a cancer diagnosis. But life coaching focuses on moving forward.
A coach won’t fix your problems for you. Instead, we help you see situations differently, offering tools and strategies to help you become the boss of your own life. A good life coach doesn’t tell you what to do but guides you to discover your path by identifying obstacles, challenges, and opportunities that you uncover yourself.
Why Hire a Life Coach?
You might be thinking, I don’t need a coach. But consider this: when your car breaks down, you go to a mechanic. When your sink leaks, you call a plumber. So why hesitate to seek help when you’re stuck in life, trying to level up, or searching for clarity?
Friends and family can provide advice, but their guidance often comes with biases, even if unintentional. A coach offers an unbiased perspective, helping you uncover what’s truly best for you.
Who Benefits from Coaching?
The answer is simple: anyone who wants to bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be. Entrepreneurs, CEOs, writers, managers, homemakers—people from all walks of life hire coaches to achieve their goals.
Coaching works because it provides structure, accountability, and motivation. Regular check-ins keep you on track, and a good coach will help you take consistent action toward your dreams. With the right support, progress happens faster than you might expect.
What Can a Coach Help With?
Coaches tackle a wide range of topics, including:
Work-Life Balance: Finding harmony between your professional and personal lives.
Career Pathing: Clarifying your next steps and advancing your career.
Setting Goals: Defining and achieving meaningful objectives.
Overcoming Fears: Conquering self-doubt and embracing new challenges.
Building Strong Relationships: Enhancing personal and professional connections.
Personal Branding: Establishing your unique identity and value.
Setting Boundaries: Protecting your time and energy.
Communicating Effectively: Strengthening your ability to express yourself clearly.
Overcoming Overindulgence: Addressing habits like overeating or overdrinking.
Identifying Passions: Rediscovering what lights you up.
The focus is always on what you want to work on. A life coach provides structure, support, and an objective perspective, empowering you to create the life you envision.
What’s Stopping You?
If you’re ready to move past challenges, gain clarity, or reach the next level, consider giving life coaching a try. Like any partnership, the right synergy with a coach can transform your life. Take that first step—you won’t regret it.
